Museum of Jewish Memory and the Holocaust in Ukraine
The Dnipro museum presents the history of Ukrainian Jews, Jewish culture, the Holocaust and the revival of the local community.
The Museum of Jewish Memory and the Holocaust in Ukraine in Dnipro presents the history of Ukrainian Jews within the broader context of world history. Its exhibitions explore Jewish culture, traditions and community life, including the history of the Jewish community of Yekaterinoslav–Dnipropetrovsk–Dnipro and its revival today. The Holocaust is a central theme of the museum: the catastrophe that, during the Second World War, almost completely destroyed the rich Jewish civilization in many places. The exhibitions also address Ukrainian-Jewish relations, the rejection of antisemitic and Ukrainophobic stereotypes, and examples of mutual assistance and cooperation. Visitors can see sections devoted to Judaism, Jewish life in cities and towns, the Holocaust and remembrance. The museum includes a Hall of Remembrance and Names and the “Rift of the World” installation. Alongside traditional displays, it uses multimedia installations, holograms, video and audio materials. The complex also has temporary exhibition halls, an information centre, a library and educational classrooms. Guided tours are held regularly. Nearby, the Ukrainian Institute for Holocaust Studies “Tkuma” conducts research, organises academic conferences and seminars, and publishes materials. The museum is open on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10:00 to 19:00; last admission is at 18:00.
