“Shifra and Pua”: Support for Families After a Birth
A Chabad community project supports mothers and their families during the first month after a child’s birth by delivering breakfasts and dinners.
The “Shifra and Pua” project was initiated by the Lubavitcher Rebbe and is now implemented in cities where Chabad operates. In Dnipro, the program supports women after childbirth and their families during the first month after the baby is born. Breakfasts are delivered to the mother first at the maternity hospital and later at home. Dinners are prepared for the whole family, including the husband and children. Religious women from the community prepare the meals according to a schedule, with each participant taking responsibility for one day. Drivers deliver the food and help carry out the program with care and attention. This community-based support allows a new mother to focus on recovering after childbirth without worrying about preparing meals for her family. The project offers more than food assistance: it expresses compassion, unity and mutual care, continuing the community’s tradition of supporting families.
